From the Head of School’s Desk
We have reached half-term in term two of 2020. I had hoped to be in a position to give you a definitive timeline for the re-opening of school. However, we await the outcome of discussions between the MEC of Education, Angie Motshekga, and the Director-General of the National Department of Basic Education, Mr Mathanzima Mweli, regarding clarification on the dates for the re-opening of schools. Much of this discussion will also be guided by the readiness of the respective Provincial Education Departments. In addition, the National Alliance of Independent School Associations (NAISA) of which ISASA is a member, has made submissions to the Director-General regarding the re-opening of schools on behalf of member schools.
It is important to keep in mind that as a country we are still under a National State of Disaster and as such we are required to adhere to the requirements of the law. Although we are in stage 4 of the lockdown, we still need to comply with the protocols as set out by the Covid-19 Disaster Management Act.
In the interim we are preparing the campus for re-opening and to ensure that the school is COVID-19 compliant with health and safety standards. Our senior management team meets once or twice each week (online) to plan and for feedback. Craig Manuel, our Estates Manager, has been sourcing all the necessary PPE for staff and school require-ments. I would like to thank Mr Garvie for his donation of face masks and ISO approved visors for members of staff. We are so grateful to our parents for your continued support of Epworth and for your contacts for resources and equip-ment. All cleaning procedures and guidelines for managing Covid-19 health protocols are being put in place.
